On March 29th the President of the United States finally seemed shocked. Shocked by the size and the speed of the viruses transmission and the expected deaths in ranges from 100,000 to as many as 1.2 million without radical mitigation. We have been talking with our local COVID-19 news watcher Houston Wade who has been doing the math and examining the modeling of the pandemic.

Co-host Richard Davis interviewed Houston after the President announced from the Rose Garden (with his Coronavirus Task Force) that he extended the current guidelines through April 30th which essentially will give everyone cover for the continued lockdown now in effect. It will not be over by Easter, but what do these large numbers mean for you at home? What can you expect long term regarding work, school and health? We try to wrap our heads around the numbers.

Brought to you by Outcome Athletics and the best personal trainer on Bainbridge Island, Bethanee Randles. Check them out on Facebook for live daily video workouts and equipment rental so you can workout at home.

Can Social Distancing Still Slow the COVID-19? The answer is clearly yes but are other "suppression" methods also needed? Put any free-floating anxiety aside and listen to this interview with Houston Wade who has been deep-diving the math, the cultural implications and the realities as we reach the tipping point in how to deal with the coronavirus here in Seattle and the US.

About 31% of the adult population of Bainbridge Island is in the crosshairs; those are the seniors especially those with underlying conditions. But no one is truly immune.

Here are the earlier talks with Houston on the COVID-19 crisis.

Part One: What is it? Where did it come from? Part One: What is SARS CoV-2?

Part Two: The exponential transmission of viruses. Part Two: The Math On Transmission

317 | 15 Minutes with Bainbridge Island Doctor Richard Saint Cyr | What You CAN Do | Wake Up Bainbridge

Doctor Richard Saint Cyr is the author of the now viral (in a good way) blog post that lit up social media last week. In "Here's how to REALLY fight off Coronavirus" , Dr. Saint Cyr looks to focus his efforts on what we can do as compared to focusing on what we can't.

We discuss the true value of eating healthy foods, sleeping and making sure your immune system is up for the task of fighting off a virus. It may seem like common sense but these actions are far from what most people do on a regular basis.

Dr. Saint Cyr gives us all some great advice to consider as we try to social distance yet keep our community intact.

Wake Up Bainbridge wants to thank Dr. Saint Cyr and all of the other health care providers, first responders and boots on the ground out there putting their life on the line to save ours.

Episode 317 is brought to you by the Virtual Gym at Outcome Athletics where we now offer Live Streaming Classes and Virtual Personal Training. Contact Bethanee Randles to find how to get your first session absolutely FREE!

Episode 313 | Wake Up Bainbridge! Show co-host Richard Davis sat down for a late-night conversation with Islander @Houston Wade to talk turkey about the economics of the pandemic at which we find ourselves in the epicenter. If not a ghost town, the local scene is certainly ghost town adjacent as more people work from home, more events are cancelled and many are practicing "social distancing" with vigor.

The stock market gets the headlines but the workers of the Gig Economy, employees of small local businesses and anyone looking at may be a long siege against the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 are feeling the pinch. What will the State of Washington do? What is already in place? What is the forecast going forward.

Wake Up Bainbridge Co-Host Sal DeRosalia strolled on down to Current Dental to meet up with Bainbridge Island's Dr. Tim Verharen. Tim has been a practicing dentist for more than two decades and he brings his expertise and opinions to the Wake Up Bainbridge show to help inform listeners on how to empower themselves when deciding healthcare options.

And... is it safe to go to the Dentist right now?

Dr. Tim Verharen's Bio: (from Current Dental website)

Dr. Tim is passionate about delivering gentle dentistry to trauma sensitive patients. In many situations, he can complete treatment the very same day, thanks to state-of-the-art CEREC crowns, bridges, and more. This limits the need for you to take off from work for frequent visits (not to mention does away with gooey impressions!).

If you’ve previously had a bad experience in a dental office or suffer from anxiety, you’ll be thrilled to learn that Dr. Verharen and Dr. Waldo have worked with local psychologists to develop the calmest dental experience possible.

At Current Dental, our team values the relationships we build with families like yours. Successful long term patient relationships are founded on trust, which all starts with compassionate listening. Our individual treatment plans reflect our core values of health, choice, honor and integrity.

Wake Up Bainbridge! Show co-host Richard Davis has a late-night conversation with Houston Wade who has been on the COVID-19 case since Day One. He has crunched numbers, reported news and pulled together an array of information which he has passed along to his following. Blank is getting real and you will find this an A-Z of what is happening now and what is likely to happen.

As COVID-19 continues it's exponential march of disaster, I have questions. As a member of the target market for infection and at the epicenter of the infection in the US, I want to know. What is it? Where did it come from? What's happening in China? Singapore? Italy? Why can't we get our heads around the NUMBERS?  Houston has read enormously, followed moment to moment and been talking about it online since December. Most importantly, he is smart and fun to talk to. Listen here for the complete rundown.

News correspondent Sal DeRosalia spoke with local Bainbridge Island resident, Hannah Myrick about her connection to the Post Prison Education Program, what it's doing and how we all can help.

Hannah Myrick is a local journalist who has worked for a variety of community based newspapers in the Seattle area. She’s currently working for the Post Prison Education Program to tell stories that have the power to destigmatize the prison population.

An example of her work can be seen in a recent interview Hannah conducted with the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women, a national resource and advocacy center founded with the purpose “to work for justice for victims of battering charged with crimes where a history of abuse is relevant to their legal claim or defense.”

A quote from Hannah's Facebook page which explains a bit about her passion and intentions:

"They are an incredible organization that provides resources, a listening ear and support for those released who would often otherwise have nowhere to go and no future to look towards.

There’s so many backstories to tell and perspectives to collect and write about in order to better understand how complex each individual in our prison system is. I’ll be posting more content upcoming from interviews with local advocates, attorneys, advocates, etc. but in the meantime give PPEP a like, subscribe to their newsletter, check out their website, donate! And if you have any connections or questions or comments, let me know."

On this week's episode of Design with Denise...

Sal and Denise discuss an article she wrote for a local online lifestyle publication called Mo-Minski from Mo-Minski Team at Charter Real Estate.

Denise starts by going in depth about living in N.Y.C. as a young, cash strapped student at the famous Fashion Institute of Technology. After a late night of clubbing, she stumbled upon defunct metal entryway at a comedy club that would one day adorn her bedroom wall.

Link to original article: https://www.mo-minski.com/…/dumpster-diving-and-other-inter…

We discuss:

  • Can you still Dumpster Dive in 2020?
  • Is Bainbridge a good place?
  • Online Marketplaces
  • Bargain(ish) Stores
  • When to offer more, not less.

We also ask the question of the week: What is your greatest Dumpster Diving achievement? Where did you find it? How did you get it home? Where is it now?

Please leave your story in the comments section. This is going to be fun.

And go see Denise Stoughton from BI Design tonight as she showcases her new lineup of MODERN AIRHEADS at Plum Bainbridge.

If you have a product or service you think Denise would like to feature, contact the show.

Correspondent Sal DeRosalia went up and then down to the Norm Dicks Building in downtown Bremerton to meet up with Kitsap County 2020 Complete County Census Coordinator, Leslie Daugs.

Yes, she is the same Dynamo that Sal and Richard interviewed a couple weeks back. Then we talked about her run for the 23rd Legislative District seat opening by the retiring of Sherry Appleton. You can see that interview here.

In today's show, Census Coordinator Daugs went over the ...

Who should be counted in the 2020 Census?

Why should folks participate in the 2020 Census, especially if they are undocumented or in fear of being found.

When should everyone expect to start seeing letters and folks at their doors and more much.
